Abilene's downtown fills for two days each September with German food, beer and dancing in its ninth year. Traditional dancers and live bands share the programme with the competitive side of an Oktoberfest - keg tapping, Hammerschlagen, stein hoisting and cornhole. Bouncy houses and other children's entertainment keep it a family event rather than a beer-tent-only one.
