Privacy

Oktoberfest Finder does not have visitor accounts. This page describes everything we store and how to have it removed.

What we store

If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store:

  • Your email address
  • The states or ZIP code you tell us you’re interested in, if you give us any
  • Timestamps for when you subscribed, confirmed and unsubscribed
  • A log of the newsletters we’ve sent to your address, so we can tell you what you already received

If you submit a festival or a correction, we store what you enter in that form.

If you write to us through the contact page, we store your name, your email address, what the message is about, the subject and the message itself, so a person can read it and reply. We keep it while we are dealing with it and afterwards as a record of what was asked. We don’t use it for anything else, and it never joins the newsletter list.

We also keep a hashed (not plain) version of the sending IP address on submissions, contact messages and newsletter sign-ups, used only to limit abuse and spam - we cannot reverse it back to your address.

We never sell or share this information, and we don’t use it for advertising.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

Browsing the directory doesn’t require an account, and we set no cookie of our own to track you across the web.

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful, so we know where to add festivals next. It sets its own cookies and records the pages you view, your approximate location from your IP address, and the kind of device you use. We never send it your email address or anything you type into a form here. You can opt out for every site with Google’s browser add-on.

We show ads through Google AdSense, which pays for the hosting. Google and its partners set their own cookies and may use your approximate location, the pages you view here, and your past browsing to choose which ads you see. That data goes to Google, not to us, and we never send them your email address or anything you type into a form on this site.

You can control this at Google My Ad Center, and see how Google handles the data in its partner sites policy.

Deleting your data

Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately and removes your state and ZIP preferences. To have your email address, your sending history or a message you sent us deleted outright, email us and say so.
