The umbrella body for Chicago's German clubs stages this free three-day street festival in Lincoln Square, the traditional heart of German Chicago. It runs the same weekend as the Von Steuben Parade, and the parade's marching societies, singing groups and folk dance troupes carry on to the festival stage afterward. German food, beer and live bands fill the closed-off streets, and organizers present it as a family-friendly heritage celebration rather than a ticketed beer hall.
