The Mountain View Chamber of Commerce closes Castro Street from Church to Mercy for two full days each October, turning the main downtown drag into a free-entry street festival. German ensembles including the SF German Band and BlowMusik play accordion-led polkas while bratwurst and pretzel stands and German, Austrian and American beer pours line the street. Contests run through both days — stein-hoisting, pretzel-eating, beer-belly and best costume — and the chamber pitches the whole thing as family-friendly.
