Whiteface Mountain, the Olympic Regional Development Authority's ski area outside Lake Placid, holds a one-weekend Oktoberfest on its base-area festival grounds. The grounds and the Cloudsplitter Gondola open together each morning, with entertainment following shortly after, so visitors can pair the festival with a ride up Little Whiteface for the Adirondack foliage.
