Purgatory Resort holds its Oktoberfest across the base area on a Saturday in September, with tasting stations at each food outlet plus a separate beer tent. Admission includes a commemorative stein and the first pour. Live music plays on the beach or the patio at Purgy's, German food runs to pretzels, schnitzel and bratwurst, and there are Oktoberfest-themed games. A sponsored free shuttle runs from Durango for those who would rather not drive the mountain.
