Skitoberfest

Boyne Mountain runs its Oktoberfest as a two-day mountain party at the base of the ski hill, billed as Oktoberfest with an alpine accent. Alongside the keg trailer and Bavarian food tent there is a full slate of contests: stein hoisting in men's, women's and children's divisions, keg throwing, spouse carrying and a dirndl-and-lederhosen costume contest. A winter expo of ski vendors and a pray-for-snow bonfire make clear that this doubles as the unofficial start of ski season. Children get their own zone with pony rides, inflatables and face painting.
