A free two-day Oktoberfest in its 36th year at the base of Sugar Mountain ski resort in the North Carolina High Country. The Harbour Towne Fest Band plays Bavarian music and leads dances each afternoon while Spaten Oktoberfest beer, bratwurst, knockwurst, sauerkraut, strudel and soft pretzels are served, with local artists selling crafts nearby. A costume contest, inflatables, hay rides and pumpkin bowling round out the weekend, and the Summit Express chairlift runs for fall foliage views. Admission, parking and the shuttle are all free, and leashed pets are welcome.
