The Baron's Oktoberfest

The Bergen County Historical Society throws an afternoon Oktoberfest on the grounds of Historic New Bridge Landing in River Edge, tying the celebration to Major General Baron von Steuben, the Prussian officer who drilled the Continental Army. Visitors can tour three eighteenth-century Jersey-Dutch sandstone houses and the Westervelt-Thomas Barn between rounds of local craft beer, cornhole and pumpkin picking. A reenactor appears in character as von Steuben, and a band plays through the afternoon. Proceeds support the volunteer nonprofit, which has cared for the site since 1902.
