A Rotary-run two-day Oktoberfest at Cary's lakeside Koka Booth Amphitheatre, now in its twelfth year and widely called the most authentically German festival in the state. The lineup pairs an Oktoberfest brass band and 65-plus beers with Bavarian food, wiener dog races, a stein hoist championship, Schlagen hammer contests and a Miss and Mr. Oktoberfest competition. A Kinder Platz with inflatables and face painting keeps children busy, and every dollar of proceeds goes to the organizers' charitable foundation.
