Waverly Oktoberfest is an entirely volunteer-run community festival at Kohlmann Park in this small northeast Iowa town. Two days combine German tradition - stein hoisting, hammerschlagen, traditional music and dancing - with live bands, Iowa craft beverage tastings and a cornhole tournament. A deep kids' program of inflatables, kiddie train rides, face painting, laser tag and nine-square runs alongside food vendors, and the festival closes with fireworks.
