Loon Mountain Resort stages this three-day Oktoberfest at its Governor Adams Lodge base area over the Columbus Day weekend, when the White Mountains are at peak color. Oompah bands play alongside Bavarian-style games such as stein hoisting, a root beer toss and a keg toss, with axe throwing for adults and a Samuel Adams tasting session on the weekend. Face painting, chainsaw carving demonstrations, a naturalist animal exhibit and gondola rides round out a schedule aimed squarely at families.
