The German-Texan Heritage Society holds its Oktoberfest in the garden of the historic German Free School in downtown Austin, the 1858 building it has occupied since the 1990s. Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr are poured alongside Texas and Rhineland-Pfalz wines, with German cooking from IM Catering. Three bands - Bushy Creek Band, the Walburg Boys and Yodel Blitz - rotate through the eight-hour day. Admission is twenty dollars and children under twelve come in free.
