AustOberfest

The Austin Saengerrunde, a German singing society founded in 1879, runs AustOberfest at Scholz Garten, the beer garden it has shared a block with for well over a century. Live music plays all day under a headline set from Two Tons of Steel, and the first five hundred guests get a complimentary half-litre stein. A stein-holding competition doubles as a qualifier for the Texas State Championship, and a sausage contest pits local makers against each other. The society's historic basement bowling lanes stay open, and children under twelve get in free.
